“The governor calls it the ‘Local Bills and Local Power Act,’ but it’s really just a $40 rebate. Last year it was $80. What Marylanders haven’t heard is a real plan for local power.”

Annapolis, MD.:

Annapolis, MD. — Senate Minority Leader Steve Hershey joined WBAL Radio Monday morning to discuss rising energy costs and the Moore administration’s latest proposal to offer Maryland ratepayers a one-time $40 rebate this fall.

Senator Hershey said the announcement, branded by the Governor as the Local Bills and Local Power Act, does not address Maryland’s lack of in-state energy generation or the long-term affordability challenges facing families and small businesses.

Senator Hershey also said Maryland must move more quickly to bring reliable, in-state power back online, including natural gas generation, to stabilize costs and protect ratepayers.
