Celebrating Kent Island Day and Maryland’s Historic Roots
This year’s Kent Island Day once again reminded us why the Eastern Shore is such a special place to call home.
Hosted by the Kent Island Heritage Society, the annual celebration brought together families, local organizations, businesses, artists, civic groups, and community leaders to honor the rich history and culture of Kent Island and the broader District 36 community.

Senator Steve Hershey pictured with Delegate Jay Jacobs at Kent Island Day in Historic Stevensville celebrating the traditions, heritage, and community spirit of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Held in the historic village of Stevensville Historic District, Kent Island Day celebrated not only the heritage of Maryland’s first permanent English settlement, but also the enduring community spirit that continues to define the Eastern Shore today.
From the opening ceremony and parade to the historic exhibits, local vendors, live entertainment, and family activities, the event showcased the pride residents have in preserving the traditions and values that make our region unique. The parade through downtown Stevensville featured the classic hometown atmosphere Kent Island Day is known for — complete with historic vehicles, boats, scouts, music, civic organizations, fire engines, and elected officials connecting directly with the community.

This year’s celebration also carried added significance as it highlighted America’s upcoming 250th birthday, reminding us of the deep historical roots and patriotic spirit that continue to shape our nation and our local communities.
Events like Kent Island Day are more than celebrations — they are reminders of the importance of community involvement, local leadership, and preserving the character of the Eastern Shore for future generations.

As we move further into election season, it is important that we continue supporting leaders who understand our communities, share our values, and remain committed to protecting the future of District 36 and the Eastern Shore.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, participated, organized, and attended this year’s Kent Island Day. Your continued commitment to our community is what keeps this tradition strong year after year.
